Right off the bat, the track 'Ready Lets go' sets the tone for the album, with it's extremely dark, wavering ambient tone broken up by undefinable climbing synth sounds and a broken-sounding synth/piano that comes in every once in a while. This track transitions right into 'Music is Math', one of my favorites. This track containes a beautiful analog tone that becomes accompanied by a squashed drum machine beat and vocoder samples. The track ends with a haunting vaguely-human-sounding wail.

Now, I could write an entire paper on this album(and I might some day), but I'll sum up the rest of it. The drumming drives almost every track, and appears to be even more complex than MHTRTC. Case in point, 'Gyroscope', with it's psychedelic driving IDM drum pattern. The vocal samples sound extremely sinister in this album, such as in 'The Devil is in the Details', which features a vocal sample, possibly from a hypnosis video, that has been so distortec and changed that it sounds like the voice is underwater. There also seems to be even more sound exploration on this album, as many of the sounds are not identifiable as being synthesizers, like with most of MHTRTC.

For example, 'Julie and Candy' puts flutes and recorders to use to create an extremely overwhelming, psychedelic sound. There are more vignettes on this album to break up the tracks. Many of these smaller tracks consist of a vocal sample paired with nostalgic melodies or a mindfuck of undefinable sound. Whereas MHTRTC made me think of wilderness, this album makes me think of radio towers and industrial buildings: the beauty of nature peaking though something destructive and man-made.

This is a fine melancholic Album, listening to 'Geogaddi' is like getting inside old houses and have visions of scenes from the past, seeing who were the people that once used to live there, like seeing a Man in the backyard playing ball with his two sons, or a woman feeding her bedridden Mother.among those visions you get to see events that were kept secret.and eventually you´ll come across with some ghosts trying to scare you 'the devil is in the details'. This Album is also a restrospective of your most memorable moments in life.

The Boards of Canada return for their second album, GEOGADDI, branching away from the crunchy beats of their debut, even if 'Music Is Math' still leans in that direction. The interludes here are much more ambient, like invisible stitches between the tracks, though the weft and weave of 'In The Annexe' is almost too lovely to ignore.

'Gyroscope' has a much more organic drum kit that sweeps over the landscape, while 'Sunshine Recorder' throbs and sputters like an irregular heartbeat. 'Julie And Candy' is a whirling carousel, and 'The Beach At Redpoint' conveys the idea of a sonic sunset. 'Alpha And Omega' adds some ethnic instrumentation and percussion into the mix, and 'The Devil Is In The Details' is like a relaxation tape from purgatory. And even if there aren't any immediate standouts like 'Turquoise Hexagon Sun,' the album holds together better as a cohesive whole.

The psychedelic chug of 'Dawn Chorus' seems to come from the same place as the stuttering waver of 'You Could Feel The Sky.' 'Corsair' and 'Magic Window' end the album on shifting plateaus of sound and, finally, silence. A wondrous journey overall.
